Everyone’s favourite member of the emo sad girls, Maisie Peters, has dropped new single, Psycho, and has instructed us all to forget about Hot Girl Summer, because “Feral Girl Summer” is here to stay.

Maisie Peters is one of the most exciting rising stars on the UK music scene right now. She began her career through YouTube, releasing a variety of covers from some of her favourite artists and biggest influences, alongside some of her own, original tracks. In 2018, she released her debut EP, Dressed Too Nice For A Jacket, and 2019 saw her follow up EP, It’s Your Bed, Babe, It’s Your Funeral, both of which plummeted her into success, and were endorsed by the likes of Scott Mills and Chris Stark from Radio 1. Now, Maisie is back and even more powerful than she’s ever been before (‘maybe you should be scared’, as she sings on her latest track, Psycho), gearing up to release her first full length debut album, You Signed Up For This, under no other than highly acclaimed British singer-songwriter, Ed Sheeran’s record label, Gingerbread Man Records.
Yesterday (01/07/21), Maisie released the second taster of her debut album, Psycho, a track reflecting on a toxic relationship, specifically, in which her ex-boyfriend, who was secretly dating other girls, is still a little bit clingy and keeps calling her. Not ideal.
Psycho is the perfect paradigm of the standard of the tracks that Maisie is continuously putting out to her equally as powerful army of dedicated fans, with its poppy, radio ready chorus with instant appeal. And in Maisie’s truly authentic style, it’s the break up, “getting over him” anthem that you need on your playlists. Why cry over him when you can put Psycho by Maisie Peters on and have both a dance and a cry?
I envision the live debut of this track being even more of a belter than it already is on the studio recording, with Maisie standing up on a stage that stretches far into the audience, as if she is a goddess to be worshipped (I mean, there is no “as if”, it’s time that Maisie is promoted from our favourite sad ‘girl next door’ to the queen of break-up power anthems, in my eyes), with fans left, right and centre completely caught up in the moment, maybe with mascara stained eyes, all chanting in unison. Oh, and all wearing that jumper.
I guess this is your sign to ditch that toxic boy, if that applies to you. And even if you don’t have a boy to dump because you’re happily in a relationship or painfully, painfully single, then of course, you are still a part of this. It’s feral girl summer for all of us, after all.
